A free local resource worth knowing about
When you move to a city, finding places that can become part of your week helps you settle in. According to the city council, Las Palmas’s municipal public libraries provide their services free of charge. Start by looking up the network and finding a branch that suits you. It does not have to become another big task on your moving checklist.
What to check before your first visit
The council website links to LPA Bibliotecas, the library network’s portal. Look up the branch you want to visit and confirm its opening hours and the requirements for the service you need. If you want a library card or an account, ask what documents to bring. Requirements from another municipality or an old guide may not apply.
You can borrow digital books too
The council explains that libraries provide access to eBiblio Canarias. It advises contacting your nearest public library to request a key or PIN for the lending platform. Ask the branch how to activate your access and which conditions apply. Trying a new book need not mean buying a copy every time.
Look beyond the catalogue
LPA Bibliotecas lists activities such as book launches, talks and workshops. Check the date, intended audience and whether registration is required. An old announcement does not mean an activity is still open for booking. Choose something you would enjoy in its own right. A shared interest can make conversation easier, but attending does not oblige anyone to socialise or turn an activity into a date.
