A walk that lasts as long as you both want
For a first meeting, a simple suggestion can feel easier to say yes to than a whole afternoon of activities. Choose a specific spot on the Las Canteras promenade, walk for a while and decide afterwards whether to sit down somewhere. Pick a recognisable meeting point: “at the beach” leaves a lot of room for confusion.
Time to talk in Vegueta
If you prefer exploring the streets, meet in a square in Vegueta and wander around the neighbourhood. You do not need the perfect route. The aim is to have space to talk, stop when you feel like it and finish the meeting without feeling that you are cancelling an elaborate plan.

Coffee is a plan too
Choose a public place that works for both of you. A first coffee does not have to become lunch, dinner and a long walk. “Would you like to meet for a quick coffee?” gives you a chance to get to know each other without committing to more time than you want. Asking about accessibility, noise or preferences beforehand can make things more comfortable.
Before heading out
Confirm the time and meeting point that day. When meeting someone for the first time, choose a busy public place and arrange your own way home. Either person can change their mind and say so clearly and respectfully. Nobody is obliged to stay or meet again.
