This week’s local story
The ninth Orígenes Gran Canaria congress is scheduled for 28 and 29 September 2026 at Jardín Botánico Canario Viera y Clavijo. Led by the Cabildo with the Chamber of Commerce, its programme explores regenerative food practices: how cooking can help care for the land and support the island’s producers. This is a professional congress that has already begun, rather than a food fair open to the public.
What does that have to do with eating out?
The announced programme includes discussions about bread, wild plants and restoring traditional vineyards. Those subjects can make their way into an ordinary meal, too. Here’s our suggestion for your next outing: ask where an ingredient that catches your eye comes from, and choose something you both fancy trying. You don’t need to know about gastronomy or turn lunch into a test.
An idea for your next meet-up
Before booking, look at the menu and agree on a budget you both feel comfortable with. If you want local ingredients, ask the venue for specifics; the word “Canarian” alone doesn’t tell you where every ingredient comes from. This is an editorial suggestion, not a restaurant recommendation or a QEDA event. Registration is already open for QEDA, the app for meeting people in Las Palmas, free forever.
